The woes of the Creative Arts Agency may soon be over when the Minister Designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, officially assumes office.
The Member of Parliament for Ketu South constituency made a pledge before the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 during her vetting, that she intends to pay critical attention to the pressing needs of the agency.
“The Creative Arts Agency that has been formed, my understanding before we left office was that it was a multi-purpose vehicle, not an agency. But I see that now it is an agency.
When I have the nod, I will take a critical look at the agency and its functions, and see how best to make it work with the National Commission on Culture, and of course, the ministry as a whole,” Dzifa said.
The Creative Arts Agency is a body established by parliament through the Creative Arts Industry Act, 2020 (Act 1048) to provide the necessary institutional framework for the development and management of the arts industry and other related matters.
The agency is currently awaiting the appointment of an Executive Secretary and a governing body (Board) to see to its smooth operation.
A Legislative Instrument to the Creative Arts Industry Act (1048) is also in Parliament for assent.
Recent reports also have it that the agency does not have an office space. At the moment, there is no office accommodation for the Creative Arts Agency, yet the Ministry recruited thirteen (13) people on December 18, 2024, to start working in various positions as staff of the agency, effective December 23, 2024.
Due to the lack of an office space, the newly recruited workers have been asked to go home and return after the ministry gets a new place for them.
