The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has refuted claims by the Alliance of Drivers Ghana, which allege that rising spare parts prices are a contributing factor to their planned 20% increase in lorry fares, effective March 17.
In a press statement, the Chairman of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association and President of the Ghana Auto Parts Dealers Association, Henry Okyere Jnr, dismissed the claim as “false, misleading, and unwarranted."
He emphasised that there has been no increase in the prices of spare parts that could justify the announced fare hike.
According to Mr Okyere Jnr, import duties and market conditions have remained stable, and stock levels of essential vehicle components such as engine oil and filters have not changed.
He reassured the public that the new government remains committed to supporting the spare parts industry, ensuring stability in pricing and supply.
“We urge the Alliance of Drivers Ghana to ensure that any adjustments to transportation fares are based on factual economic indicators and not unfounded allegations,” the statement read.
The association further called on transport unions and regulators to engage in transparent discussions regarding fare adjustments to guarantee fairness for both transport operators and the public.
They encouraged transport users to disregard the claims linking spare parts costs to fare hikes, asserting their commitment to truthfulness and transparency in industry matters.
