Nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital have staged a demonstration, vowing not to return to work until authorities provide them with medication for the patients.
The nurses said they have consistently come under attack from aggressive patients because of the absence of drugs to calm them.

"They should just [get] the drugs for us otherwise we won't work", a very angry nurse told Joy News' Michaela Anderson.
Scores of nurses with red arm bands chanted in anger at the premises of the hospital for close to an hour.
The nurses are also fretting, that a leading Psychiatric hospital in Ghana does not have a mortuary.
"We need mortuary. Ah? We have the mortuary machine here. For over 10 years they are not able to install the machine. We have to send [the dead] to Korle-Bu and Ridge [hospitals] why?", several nurses said clamouring for a chance to voice their concerns.
They also put in a word for their patients saying their food is poor.
"Everyday gari and beans with worms in it, why?", a nurse said.

In a reaction, Chief Psychiatrist of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr Akwasi Osei, revealed government has released Gh¢ 300,000 for the purchase of drugs and promised they will soon be available.
