ACP Kofi Boakye may have been reinstated into Police Service, but still has questions to answer, says the Interior Minister, Cletus Avoka.
The former Director of operations will soon be hauled before a service enquiry to clear his name of allegations of corruption, abuse of office and professional misconduct made by the Georgina Wood committee constituted in 2007 to investigate the disappearance of 77 parcels of cocaine aboard the MV Benjamin.
The interior minister told Joy News the enquiry is in fulfillment of good governance principle, adding, ACP Kofi Boakye should clear his name from the adverse findings made against him.
“He would have been called back to work without any condition, but because of the adverse findings that the Georgina Wood committee made against him, we thought that it would been in order of good governance and democracy to be able to clear his name of those allegations made against him,” he said.
“If we just bring him back for him to start work people will ask what about the allegations made against him.”
He said it was as a result of these same findings which led to the prosecution of Kwabena Amaning, alias Tagor and Alhaji Issah Abass by an Accra High Court, but was later acquitted on appeal.
Asked if it was not appropriate to conduct the investigations before ushering him back to office, the interior minister said that was against police administrative procedure, adding he had to come back to service and be in uniform for the court marshal to take place.
Contrary to initial reports that the embattled Police chief, has been appointed as the Director of Police Education, ACP Kofi Boakye may well be deputizing for ACP Agyemang who is the substantive Director of Police Education.
Joy News correspondent Araba Koomson who paid a visit to the Police Training School on Friday, said that ACP Boakye reported to duty in his resplendent black suit and was briefed by the substantive Director.
He will however begin his official duties on Monday.
