The acting Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare has paid a working visit to the Bono East enclave to ascertain the security situation in the region.
The visit, according to the Director of Public Affairs, Supt. Alexander Kwaku Obeng forms part of measures taken by the new IGP to have first-hand information about security in the area.
“The team is embarking on a regional working visit and we paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Council, Oseadeɛyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV and conferred with the chief and his people,” he said.
He noted that, “we are proceeding to all the strategic locations within the jurisdiction and after that, we’ll engage the media tomorrow .”
The IGP had a closed-door meeting with the Nananom of the Techiman Traditional Council before paying a courtesy call on the Bono East Regional Minister, Kwesi Adu Gyan.
Adontenhene of the Techiman Traditional Council, Nana Owusu Antwi Boasiako described the visit as historical. He added that the visit would go a long way to address the security challenges of the area.
“This visit is a historical one, we’ve not had any acting IGP visiting us, and looking at the way he has decided to approach issues, it tells you that when given the full position, he’ll work massively to improve security in the country”.
He further noted that the traditional authorities are calling for measures capable of helping address organized crimes across the Municipality.
“Now, Techiman is almost a metropolitan area and like we said, we have seen numerously, that the crime rate is high, the population is growing and once it’s growing, you have this kind of spillover. So this spillover which comes from other Districts or regions is what we are focusing on and we want the IGP to look at that and try to help us,” he added.
The team would also visit the Eastern part of the region where a Special Anti-Robbery Squad had been deployed to help clamp down on the increasing activities of Armed Robberies in the area.
