The campaign team of Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has rejected recent surveys and predictions suggesting that he is lagging in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer contest slated for January 31.
According to the team, such projections do not accurately reflect the thinking of party delegates who will ultimately determine the outcome of the race.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Tuesday, January 20, the campaign’s spokesperson, Yaw Opoku Mensah, argued that NPP delegates have become far more discerning and politically conscious than they're often portrayed in public commentary.
He maintained that attempts to use opinion polls and prophecies to shape perceptions ahead of the election are misplaced and unlikely to influence the final decision.
Mr Mensah suggested that unfavourable polls are part of a broader strategy aimed at swaying public opinion through speculation rather than substance.
He stressed that delegates are fully aware of the challenges confronting the party and are focused on selecting a candidate capable of leading a renewal agenda.
He noted that the NPP finds itself at a critical juncture and cannot afford complacency or superficial political theatrics.
According to him, the current crop of delegates is demanding a new direction and transformative leadership, not only for the country but within the party itself.
He emphasised that remaining in opposition beyond 2028 is not an option the NPP can entertain, making the choice of flagbearer a matter of strategic importance.
Dr Adutwum will contest the January 31 flagbearership election alongside former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Dr Bryan Acheampong, and former NPP General Secretary, Ing Kwabena Agyepong.
