The Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has reassured party faithful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of his unflinching commitment to the party.
Dr Ato Forson says he is focused on the party’s course, and will not engage himself in any activity or conduct that will endanger that.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday, August 8, the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam MP said he will continue to hold the government’s feet to the fire of accountability.
He said that is non-negotiable, and that he will take on the government for any wrong move or decision it takes.
“For the record, Afenyo-Markin didn’t invite me for the dinner. It was part of Parliament’s 30-year anniversary, so it is important I clear the air. I want to assure NDC supporters that I remain loyal and I am committed to our course and I will do whatever it takes to hold the government accountable for whatever they do which is against the country.”
“In fact, I will hold their feet to the fire of accountability. Anyone who knows me knows that I can smile with you but when it gets to my work, there is a Chinese wall and anyone who knows me knows that, and I stay true to that. That is how I am defined. That is me. I can’t change because that is what I am made of.”
“So, I can be so nice to you but it doesn’t stop me from doing my work and I will do my work judiciously.”
Meanwhile, Dr Ato Forson has advised Ghanaians to accept multiparty democracy.
According to him, the fact that they (MPs) belong to different political parties does not make them enemies.
“Parliament of Ghana, this year, we are celebrating our 30-year anniversary of multiparty democracy and I have said and I am on record to have said that since independence, we have had four constitutions. In between they toppled the constitution for us to have a military rule and all of that.”
“The country has gone through some ups and downs. So, this democracy is the most enduring that all of us have to project for its 30 years regime so far because it is the one that has given us the opportunity to sit and jaw-jaw and and the one that has given the opportunity for you and your children to contribute your quota towards the nation building.”
“Multiparty democracy gives diverse ideas to political parties to express their views, that doesn’t make us enemies. As I am sitting here criticising the Bank of Ghana, if they appear before the committee and they are doing well, I will praise them and when they do wrong, I must be able to say. Is that not it? And the need for us to work together to build our country.”
“That is what America is doing. That is what UK is doing. That is what most countries are doing. For we all know that for the country to progress, we all need multi-party democracy to work.”
Recently, a video surfaced on social media with the Minority Leader having a dinner with the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
This hasn’t gone down well with some NDC party faithful, hence the Minority Leader's explanation to clarify the content of the video and the narrative going around with it.
