Ghana’s Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has debunked claims that affordable housing units are being sold to private developers.
His comments come in response to allegations by a section of the public that the affordable housing units were on sale.
However, Mr Oppong Nkrumah clarified that private developers are only providing the necessary capital to ensure the completion and operationalisation of the housing units.

During a tour of some abandoned state housing projects that had been stalled for over 10 years due to litigation with contractors, Nkrumah explained, "Contractors of the private entities that we're bringing to this project, we are not selling the projects to them."
Six weeks ago, work resumed on these projects, with private contractors being invited to collaborate with State Housing to complete them.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah emphasised that, after completion, the properties would be sold to the public at affordable prices.

"The government has already invested $200 million in it. Private entities will come and invest an estimated $100 million. Then together, we will complete the project and sell the homes as affordable housing to Ghanaians," he stated.
He explained that this approach was necessary due to limited fiscal space, noting that the government could not finance all the projects independently.
