Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has praised the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) for its crucial role in supporting Ghana and other African nations through critical moments of their development.
“The Bank has stood beside Ghana and other African countries in times of crisis and has been a pillar in our shared journey,” he said.
Mr. Ampem made these remarks during the opening session of the 32nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings, currently underway in Abuja, Nigeria.

He commended the Bank as a true development partner, playing a transformative role in African trade and industrialisation.
“Afreximbank has helped us reimagine what is possible in Africa’s trade landscape,” he noted. “It has supported small and medium enterprises, fostered industrial growth, and enhanced intra-African trade, yielding tangible economic benefits.”
Reflecting on Ghana’s own progress, the Deputy Minister pointed to Afreximbank’s initiatives as instrumental in reshaping Africa’s financial ecosystem, particularly in trade facilitation and payment systems.

“We cannot forget about innovations like the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), which has dismantled many of the barriers to cross-border trade,” he said.
According to him, the continent is beginning to see the results of these interventions. “We have seen the fruits of our labour in growing trade volumes across Africa, significantly increasing our participation in the global value chain.”
He added, “Afreximbank continues to offer African solutions to African needs—solutions that are tailored, timely, and transformational.”
