The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has welcomed the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s initiative of creating the new Ministry of Business Development to strengthen and accelerate private sector growth.
AGI considers this as positive as that has been part of its advocacy efforts for the creation of an independent Ministry to lead and drive private sector business in Ghana.
The Association believes the success of this new Ministry hinges largely on the role and contribution of the private sector.
In addition to the new Ministry’s core mandate, the Association in a statement signed by its President, James Asare-Adjei, says "the private sector expects that the new Ministry will prioritize its interventions towards business growth with a focus on the manufacturing sub-sector as the seedbed of Industry and the engine of growth of our economy."
The Association also says it would meet with the Minister-designate in the coming days to contribute to the definition of its agenda and roadmap for delivering on its objectives.
It, however, cautions government "on the need to align and harmonize operations of all institutions responsible for private sector growth in order to avoid duplication of efforts and to ensure the efficient use of resources."
"Already, most of the private sector institutions themselves have a plethora of information and expertise to offer and it is important for the new Ministry to coordinate all these efforts," it added.
