Agroecom Ghana Limited (AGL), has been adjudged the ‘Outstanding Commodity Trading Company of the Year’ at the Ghana Business Standard Awards, which took place at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel on Friday.
The event organised by KN Unique Communications and endorsed by the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, recognised the contributions of 34 distinct businesses for setting the standard in the Ghanaian business and corporate landscape.
Agroecom was awarded for its sterling contribution to the growth of the cocoa industry and for prioritising the well-being of the cocoa farmer.
Established in the year 2013, the company has worked closely with farmers and improving the lives of rural communities.
The company currently works with over 140,000 farmers and has over the last five years, contributed over 40 million US Dollars to the Ghanaian economy in premium payments and community infrastructure developments.
It operates the largest sustainability program in partnership with COCOBOD, to provide traceable and sustainable cocoa from Ghanaian farmers to chocolate manufacturers.
As part of its community development projects, the company collaborates with its international partners to invest in areas such as health, education and access to potable drinking water.
It has established over 35 schools, refurbished and renovated 25 schools, built seven hospitals, built 50 computer classrooms and installed 352 community boreholes that provide good drinking water to over 500,000 cocoa farmers.
Over a period of seven years, the company has trained over 140,000 smallholder cocoa farmers, provided close to 30 million high tech cocoa seedlings to these farmers and pruned over 10,000 cocoa farms in the last three years.

Mr Ibrahim Menkeh, Business Head of AGL described the award as “an honour to be recognised for our contribution to the Ghanaian cocoa sector.
He added: “For the past seven years, we have been cognisant of our business operations to ensure strict compliance to industry standards and regulatory requirements as well as projected the best interest of the cocoa farmer.”
“The company is committed to innovate and provide the Ghanaian farmer the requisite knowledge and support to grow their farm yield and income,” Mr. Menkah said.
