The Kumasi Technical University (KTU) is awarding scholarships to female students from affected communities due to the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.
Thousands of students are currently out of school as their classrooms have been turned into shelters for affected victims.
Parents and residents who continue to count their losses have been left wondering how they will continue to fund the education of their children after losing everything in the floods.

The Kumasi Technical University has stepped in to help by offering scholarships to female students affected by the floods.
“The university has as well instituted hundred thousand worth of scholarships for females who will be pursuing STEM, education at Kumasi Technical University," he said.
The University Relations Officer, Dr Charles Obeng Sarpong, revealed that whoever receives this scholarship will be enrolled for a period of four years.
The University also donated teaching and learning materials to the affected areas to aid in the educational sector in the affected communities.

“We have donated about ten thousand exercise books. We have assorted clothing and shoes. Since we are an educational institution, when the disaster came, what came to our mind was how these young ones can continue their education?”
Member of Parliament for Krachi West, Helen Adjoa Ntoso expressed her gratitude to the school for this gesture on behalf of distraught parents.
“A big thank you to Kumasi Technical University for the exercise books they have donated. We were told ten thousand exercise books. They have given us about four thousand pens, pencils, shoes and clothing. We are so grateful to them.”
"We are also grateful to them for the scholarship scheme. This is an encouragement to the girl child. Those who will be interested in science and technology education will have the opportunity to go to Kumasi Technical University for free. We are so grateful to you and God bless you."
