Ghana President Nana Akufo Addo has sent words of felicitations to Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe on becoming the new WBO Super Bantamweight champion.
Dogboe has become Ghana's youngest ever boxing champion after knocking out Mexican-American Jessie Magdaleno in Philadelphia on Sunday morning to make him the new WBO super bantamweight/junior featherweight titleholder.
And that obviously left the president excited. He posted on his official Facebook page: Congratulations to Isaac Dogboe on his victory over Jessie Magdaleno, and, in so doing, becoming WBO Junior Featherweight/Super Bantamweight Champion, and Ghana's youngest-ever boxing world champion. We are proud of him, and I am confident that he is destined for greatness!!
Former President Jerry John Rawlings, who is a keen follower of the 23-year-old also posted a congratulatory message on Twitter. "Congrats champion Isaac Dogboe. Hard work and perseverance leads to success. You've made Ghana proud. You have to sustain that hunger in order to emulate the greatest, Azumah Nelson!"

Undoubtedly the country’s best boxing product, Azumah Nelson wasn’t left out as he lauded Dogboe for achieving the historic feat.
“I watched with excitement and pride how you demonstrated bravery, determination and resilience against an undefeated Champion Jessie Magdaleno in his country and more importantly not allowing judges to decide the outcome of the bout but letting your ferocious fists to decide. “That has always been my philosophy which I have shared with you, that is, going into the ring with your own judges and referee,” a visibly happy Azumah Nelson said.
He added that “the real challenge starts from today as he has become the target of all boxers seeking this belt.
Dogboe beat Magdeleno although he was knocked down in the first round after walking into a well-timed left hook.
But he recovered well, and his heart, honed from 11 straight victories, shone through.
