Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2012 polls, has cautioned constituency chairmen of the party to stay away from activities that would compromise their positions in the elections.
He told them that as chairmen they should be wary of holding up a particular person so high and promoting favouritism as that was likely to compromise their position if the person was found wanting.
He said all that was required was hard working party men and women who would work to propel the party to victory. "The party would have won the last election if we had five more seats", he said.
He cautioned members not to "add your voice to people who come with 'they say' stories" but to concentrate on hard work to ensure victory in 2012.
Nana Akufo-Addo said this in Bolgatanga where Regional Chairmen, constituency executives, party elders, Parliamentary executives, patrons, and stakeholders of the party were meeting to discuss rules and processes of the primaries and to plan the way forward for the party in the 2012 elections.
He said the idea of going round the country to speak to members was as a result of lessons learnt during the last elections and hoped that the new initiative would ensure steadfastness in the party.
He said the initiative would also increase the party's chances since "the bigger the Electoral College, the better the representation".
Amidst cheers of the new party slogan, 'all-die-be-die', he called for support and unity among members to ensure that the coming election would be held in an atmosphere of peace, saying the high cost of living and broken and unfulfilled promises of the NDC had made living conditions more difficult.
He urged aspirants to work harder, even in places where people had assured them of victory and asked that every candidate be treated fairly.
He announced that the party had started to put in place a Campaign Advisory Council that would be headed by Mr John Agyekum Kuffuor, Former President and Alhaji Alui Mahama, former Vice President, to work together to bring the party to power.
