The Minority Leader in Parliament has advised President Akufo-Addo to restructure agencies and institutions under his wings to tackle recent challenges disrupting the country's growth and development.

Haruna Iddrisu said the recommendation will allow the government to address the composition of statutory boards and check decentralisation systems that have come to a standstill.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, he said the failure to constitute these boards has resulted in several projects carried out by road contractors coming to a halt due to unapproved funds.

"Our road contractors live on road funds, and they get monthly releases as the road fund is constituted. The Minister for Roads was inaugurated on March 5; we are ending in May. Why is the Road Fund Board not constituted? Why is it not functioning? How do you expect contractors to survive?

"The President must wake up and act urgently to secure and protect the interest of our road contractors by getting the Road Fund Board properly constituted," he added.

To the Tamale North MP, "all these are matters that are important and urgent that a serious President must be attending to."

The National Health Insurance Board, GETFund Board and the Road Fund Board are yet to be instated by the President.

Despite receiving information that individuals to take up Board positions are being vetted, Mr Iddrisu raised concerns over the failure of government to appoint persons to take up such roles for the time being.

"Who is acting in those capacities," he quizzed.
