Nana Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is asking Ghanaians to vote the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) out of office in Friday’s polls because he says the party has failed the nation.
He made the entreaty while addressing thousands of supporters in Koforidua, capital of the Eastern Region from whence he hails.
He claimed that the NDC won power by making promises to the Ghanaian people but has broken many of these promises, including the pledge to reduce fuel prices and introduce a one-time premium for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He told supporters that the NDC's Better Ghana Agenda has flopped and stressed that the NPP under president Kufuor had kept many of its campaign promises including the introduction of the NHIS and the metro mass transit service.
He accused the NDC of engaging in vote buying, citing the distribution of cars, monies and other gifts to voters.
He asked voters in the Eastern region to increase the 57 percent of the vote that the NPP won in the region four years ago to guarantee a first round victory.
