An aide to failed presidential candidate, Mr. Alan Kyerematen, has disclosed that the former minister will make a third time bid to lead the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) in the 2016 elections.
Philip Longdon told Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, that Mr. Kyerematen’s decision to contest was borne out of the mounting pressures from the party’s grassroot supporters.
If the announcement has the blessing of Mr. Kyerematen, he will be the first to declare his intention to run for the opposition party’s flagbearership position.
The party’s 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, tipped to lead the NPP in the 2016 election is yet to decide his political future.
But Philip Longdong said Alan is the preferred choice of many party faithfuls across the country.
He was therefore of the view that the NPP “needs a development oriented and youthful leader to win power in 2016”.
“There is a belief that despite the good works that have been done by our former leaders, we still haven’t been able to win power and this time round it is a very strong belief that Alan should step forward and lead the party into the next election”.
Philip Longdong said the former Minister of Trade and Industry under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, will make a formal announcement when he returns to Ghana, adding that Mr. Kyerematen is currently in Ethiopia on a private visit.
