Employees of Allianz Life Insurance, also known as Allianz Angels, have embarked on a social outreach programme as part of the company’s 3rd anniversary celebrations.

The Allianz Angels initiative, funded solely from employees’ contributions, on Thursday May 27, settled the medical bills of five children at the Tema General Hospital.

The beneficiaries had been on admission at the Surgical and Medical wards of the hospital. Allianz Angels further made a donation of an undisclosed amount to a fund created by the hospital to help needy patients meet their medical expenses.

Prior to the hospital donations, Allianz Angels had embarked on a similar charitable outreach programme when Accra-based media house TV3 made an appeal to solicit help for a set of teenage twins that had developed mobility problems shortly after a wrongful injection was administered to them as toddlers.

The twins, currently in Volta region, were struggling to raise funds to cover their transportation, specialist tests, scans and hotel accommodation to enable them seek further medical attention in Accra.

Their parents needed to accompany them to see specialists at the Focos Orthopedic Hospital in Pantang where they were to receive additional medical care.

Allianz Angels joined with other philanthropists in making a donation towards the quest for a specialist care for the twins who are since responding well to treatment.

The Allianz Angels initiative, solely funded by the employees of Allianz Life Insurance, undertake charitable initiatives every quarter.

The group has set up a committee that selects a beneficiary hospital where children who have recovered are held because their parents cannot afford to pay the bills or are on admission but are unable to pay for lab tests, X-rays, scans etc.

The cash donations are put together and used to settle the unpaid hospital expenses as a relief to parents who could not afford it and the children who are waiting to be discharged.
