Reports reaching Joy News say a commercial Benz bus carrying nine boxes of ammunition has been intercepted by the police at Binduri Barrier in the Upper East Region.
The bus was travelling from Kumasi to Bawku, which is currently under curfew following a chieftaincy dispute that claimed lives and property.
The police in Bawku confirmed the report, saying the ammunition was discovered as a result of routine checks conducted by the police to ensure weapons are not brought into the area to exacerbate the situation.
They say there is uneasy calm in the area but stressed that the fact that attempts were still being made to access weapons was an indication that more needed to be done to build the peace.
The boxes of ammunition meant for short guns have been sent to the regional police command at Bolgatanga for further investigations.
Meanwhile, the driver of the bus and two of his driver's mates are being held by the police to assist in investigation.
No passenger on board the vehicle accepted responsibility for the boxes that contained the ammunition.
