Emerging reports reaching Joy News indicate that 22 miners are now believed to be trapped underground when fire broke out at the Engineering Department of AngloGold Ashanti.
The fire outbreak which was as a result of suspected cable theft, destroyed the conveyor belt at the Company’s Engineering Department and resulted in power outage.
Joy News correspondents say efforts are being made to rescue the 22 miners, but so far officials say seven have been rescued.
In earlier reports, Mr. Ernest Abankroh, Country Manager of the mining giant, denied reports that some miners have been trapped underground.
