A police officer with the Akuapem-Akropong District Command has resigned from the Police Service to enable him to contest the Okere constituency parliamentary seat.
Detective Corporal John Evans Ayerakwa-Kumordzi who tendered in his resignation letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in accordance with the Police Service Act, is contesting on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The IGP, according to Corporal John Evans Ayerakwa-Kumordzi, approved and accepted his resignation in February this year.
The resignation of the 35-year-old officer comes a few days after the executive secretary to the IGP, Superintendent Peter Lanchene Toobu also retired from the service.
Mr Toobu resigned voluntarily to allow him to contest as a parliamentary candidate.

Supt. Toobu who is also contesting on the ticket of the NDC in the Wa West constituency, told Joy News his decision was in response to calls by his constituents.
Corporal Ayerawa-Kumordzi, told Joy News' Eastern regional correspondent, Kofi Siaw, he is well motivated to serve his constituents well.
He is positive former president John Mahama will win power again and he promised to do his best to campaign for the NDC flagbearer.
The parliamentary aspirant is convinced Mr Mahama is more capable in steering the affairs of the country than President Akufo Addo.
