The Appiatse Support Fund on Wednesday received ¢315,000 cheque from the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and The West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (WAIMM), and Women In Mining (IWiM).

The organisations made the donation following the government's clarion call for individuals and organizations to contribute towards the rebuilding of Appiatse, a community decimated by the explosion.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation from NLA, Director of Operations, George Gyamfi-Osew before donating an amount of ¢100,000 to the Fund said it is their "contribution towards the rebuilding of the Appiatse Community".

He disclosed that apart from their main mandate which is to deposit enough money into the Consolidated fund for National development, they also have the mandate to raise revenue to help the less privileged and the vulnerable like the people of Appiatse.

"What has happened in Appiatse goes beyond less privileged or destitute in society, it looks like a war when there has been no war so we are happy to support such a good cause coming from our Good Cause Foundation," he said.

Mr Gyamfi-Osew called on other institutions to come forward and donate sufficiently to complement government's efforts to rebuild the community.

On their part, the West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (WAIMM) presented a cheque of ¢90,000 to the Appiatse Support Fund Committee.

The President of the Institute, Prof. Daniel Mireku-Gyimah who was accompanied by the Executive Secretary, Lawrence Omari- Mensah took the chance to herald their role in society in conjunction with the mining Act.

He said WAIMM will support the people of Appiatse and provide enough to bring smiles to the faces of the people even as they go through the long and painful journey of recovery.
"We are willing to provide every service we can both knowledge transfer and skill development while extending a token of friendship to the community," he said.

Women In Mining Ghana in their presentation made a donation worth ¢25,000 Ghana Cedis with ¢15,000 as relief items and ¢10,000 cheque.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Georgette Sakyi Addo, the President of Women In Mining said aside from these donations they are also working tirelessly to ensure they provide the women in the community with a sustainable source of livelihood.

She said they will work for hand in hand with WAIMM to ensure that the dream of providing a good source of livelihood for the women in Appiatse is realised.
