National Chief Imam, Dr Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has expressed gratitude for the appointment of Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu to the Supreme Court.
He stated that the move will serve as an encouragement to Muslim youth to strive for excellence.
This was contained in an address delivered on his behalf by Spokesperson Sheik Aremeyaw Shaibu.
“Though we believe you based his nomination and subsequent approval on merit, we as Muslims feel greatly honoured and indebted to you.”
“The appointment will duly serve as an inspiration to many upcoming young muslim lawyers who aspire to legal professions and in the general space of education,” he said
Justice Amadu was one of the two Supreme Court judges sworn in during separate ceremonies at the Jubilee House, Friday, May 22, 2020.
Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga and Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu are the first two out of four justices approved by Parliament after they were vetted last week.
Speaking further at the virtual Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, he praised President Akufo-Addo for the regular televised updates on the country’s fight against Covid-19.
“We cannot but register our commendation for your efforts so far and encourage you to forge ahead with any measure necessary in your thinking and that comes from the advise of your advisors to contain or curb the further spread of the virus,” he said.
The Chief Imam also used the platform to call on all political stakeholders to promote peace as elections draw close.
The televised celebration and prayers was led by the Chief Imam and other muslim leaders in the studio of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
The event was graced by the President, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and their wives.
Other dignitaries present at the invent included the Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid.
Due to the spread of Covid-19, the annual Eid celebration by Muslims has been affected as they cannot congregate to feast with family and friends.
