Some Ghanaian musicians, who were billed to perform at the launch of this year’s Ghana Music Awards, defied Friday’s heavy rains and performed to the admiration of patrons.
The heavens came down heavily barely an hour after the show but some of the participants at the launch were surprised when “No Tribe” and other musicians stood in the rain to perform to the admiration of their fans.
This year’s launch of the Ghana Music Awards which was held at the pool side of the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra, was attended by the executives of the Musicians Association of Ghana, including its president Diana Hopeson, her deputy Amandzeba Nat Brew and a host of others.
Also in attendance were musicians, stakeholders in the music industry, actors and actresses such as John Dumelo, Lydia Forson, Naa Ashorkor and the media.
The rains started immediately after last year’s Music for Development award winner “Asem” adorned in a silver suit and Green shirt performed his “Filla” track.
At that point some participants thought the show would come to an abrupt end because it was held in an open space.
To their surprise, the group called “No Tribe” led by Nana Osei also known as “Nacee” mounted the stage and sung “Animonyam Nka Nyankopon” which is the medley praise song, followed by “Awurade Bohye” and ended with the popular “It is raining all around me”.
To add to the surprise Herttie Born-Great also defied the rains and gave a spectacular performance.
Some of the participants told Adom Entertainment News that though the rains somehow disrupted the programme, they were charged by the musicians’ determination to perform in the rain.
Meanwhile the leader of “No Tribe”, Nacee has told Adom News that they were inspired to perform in the rains because they saw the situation “as an opportunity to praise God for his abundant grace.
"Some countries have experienced droughts for years and it has adversely affected their lifestyle so we saw it as a privilege to perform to show our appreciation to God” Nacee said.
