The Asante Professionals Club (APC) has supported the Kumasi South Regional Hospital with a number of essential medical items to augment the nation’s efforts to contain the spread and the treatment of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It is hoped that the provision of the items will motivate frontline health workers, in the region, towards COVID-19 response while also equipping capacity of the facility to deal with COVID-19 cases.

The Kumasi South Regional Hospital is one of the key health facilities designated to handle COVID-19 cases in the region. It currently has an Infectious Disease Treatment Center, set up during the Ebola crisis, which is being used to admit and treat patients who test positive to the virus.

It is against this backdrop that the items donated, which includes 300 pieces of disposable gowns, 500 pieces of hand gloves, 20 cartons of gel hand sanitisers, and an additional 20 carton of liquid hand sanitisers, was considered expedient in positioning the facility to handle possible cases.

The President of APC, Prince Adusei Opoku, presenting the items said, the club, bearing in mind their commitment to support the wellbeing of the region, mobilized to contribute towards efforts to combat the pandemic.  “This facility, being a holding center for cases in the Ashanti Region we felt that there would be a lot of need for some of these items.”

Mr. Opoku explained that even though it was on such short notice due to the directive by the government to restrict movement in some parts of the country including Kumasi, as part of new measures to stop the spread, members of the club supported passionately. He said members of the club are spread across US, UK, Accra, and Kumasi

Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Kwame Ofori Boadu, who received the items, on behalf of the Director-General of Ghana Health Service and the Regional Health Director expressed appreciation to APC for the gesture.

He noted that despite the government’s effort it is also encouraging to receive such corporate support which goes to further enable the medical response team to have constant supplies in the discharge of their responsibilities, as health professionals.

He, therefore, entreated other benevolent organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture, to be able to totally overcome the pandemic in no time.
