The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called for an investigation into the procurement of cocoa sacks under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, led by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr Asiedu Nketia made the appeal during his Thank You Tour of Ayomso, Ahafo Region, alleging that large sums of public funds were spent on cocoa sacks that have proven useless, resulting in financial losses to the state.
He claimed the sacks are currently lying idle at the port and are unusable, a situation he said requires a thorough probe into those responsible. Preliminary checks, he added, suggest that some individuals may have personally benefited at the state’s expense, and he called for their arrest and prosecution if found culpable.
Meanwhile, the Council of State representative for the Ahafo Region, Yaw Okyere, has praised the NDC National Chairman for his contribution to the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections, noting that Mr Asiedu Nketia’s strategy, resources, and experience were key to the NDC’s historic victory in the region.
