The Sunon-Asogli Power Plant is set to provide 200 megawatts of power as the first phase of the project is near completion.
This was revealed when the President John Evans Atta Mills paid a working visit to the plant located at Kpone in Accra on Wednesday.
The plant is a brain child of Togbui Afede paramount chief of the Asogli state.
The president expressed his gratitude for the entire people of the Asogli State for the project and was hopeful the plant will provide jobs and affordable power supply for the country when completed.
Enumerating the benefits to be derived from the project, Joy Correspondent Stephen Anti said the president is looking forward to an enabling environment for business when the plant is in full operation.
The second phase of the project when completed would also provide 360 megawatts of power.
Managers of the plant Shenzhen Energy Group, have lamented the delay in the provision of natural gas from Nigeria which they say has affected operations of the plant.
In line with this, the president announced a trip to Nigeria on Friday to discuss issues relating to the West African Gas Pipe-line project with Nigeria’s President Yar’adua.
President Mills would also take the opportunity to negotiate for a flexible payment terms for crude oil supplies to Ghana.
