NDC Presidential hopeful Prof John Evans Atta Mills says he will reduce prices of petroleum products if voted into power in December.
He has also criticised what he refers to as arbitrary prosecutions and jailing of drivers for minor traffic offenses.
Speaking to party supporters and drivers at a lorry park in Winneba, the professor said he does not condone reckless driving, but maintained the current practice of prosecution will not be tolerated under an NDC government.
With fishing as a predominant occupation in the Central Region, Professor Atta Mills assured the fisher folks of his party’s commitment to ensure their continued stay in business in spite of activities by major foreign vessels on the coast.
Head of the Atta Mills Communications team Koku Anyidoho in an interview with Joy news said suicide has been rampant because foreign vessels have denied fishermen in the region of their livelihood.
“In areas like Dixcove people go to the high seas, get nothing and knowing they are indebted to other people and cannot pay, they jump into in the sea.”
He there promised that an NDC government will reverse the deplorable situation and provide outboard motors, premix fuels and other fishing inputs needed to improve their standard of living.
