The African Union (AU) has given three teachers $10,000 each for their outstanding performance in classrooms.
Ghana's Augusta Lartey-Young, Kenya's Erick Ademba and Uganda's Gladys K were awarded the Teacher Prize at ceremony held at the AU headquarters in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa.
This is the first time the AU has given the prize.
“It is a key instrument in our efforts to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Africa,” Beatrice Njenga, the head of the AU's education division, said.
Speaking to reporters after receiving the award, Mr Ademba, said it would promote the image of teaching in Africa, and inspire teachers to be innovative.
