The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly has commenced door-to-door refuse collection at Winneba and Kasoa on pilot basis as a back-up support for the use of communal refuse containers in order to alleviate the problem of waste management.
To facilitate effective coverage, Kasoa and Winneba have been zoned into five wards and environmental health officers have been assigned to be in-charge each ward to be responsible for any deeds or inactions.
Mr Solomon Abbam Quaye, District Chief Executive, announced the new measures at the second ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Winneba.
He said plans were far advanced to acquire tricycles from Zoomlion to support the District in waste management services.
The DCE said the Assembly has requested for the supply of three units of sanitation trucks and that one was ready for collection.
He said Ghana would host CAN 2008 and that the event would attract a lot of foreign dignitaries hence the need to maintain and sustain a clean physical environment before, during and after the event.
