The Deputy Minister for Trade, Industry, Private Sector and PSI, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botwe has virtually ruled herself out of contention for the New Patriotic Party running mate slot.
According to her, she is still cutting her political teeth and it would be premature for her to be openly canvassing for that high office of the land at this time.
Reacting to a publication in Friday’s Daily Guide suggesting that a number of NPP personalities, including herself, were aggressively lobbying to be running mates on the ruling party’s ticket, Ms. Ayorkor Botwe, told Adom Kasiebo that, though she has the requisite academic qualification with a matching personality to be Nana Akufo-Addo’s partner, she lacks the political maturity to occupy that high position.
Ms. Botwe, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija in the Ga South District, said in the immediate, her major dream is to win massively at her constituency for the party but not to lobby for the running mate position.
Asked if she would accept the challenge if Nana nominates her, Ms. Botwe said she will not decline the offer, maintaining though that it is not her priority or expectation at the moment.
She explained that all those whose names were being speculated in the media deserved to partner Nana Addo.
She called on her supporters to keep faith with her during the general election in December.
