Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has apologized for his choice of words in describing the actions of some chief who are endorsing President John Mahama as unwise.
Mr. Baako however, justified his suggestion that chiefs who endorse president's seeking re-election are unwise.
Mr Baako made the comment after acting Kwahumanhene, Nana Asiedu Agyemang III, declared his support for the President during his ‘Accounting to the People’ tour in the Eastern region last week.
But Mr. Baako has been criticized by a section of the public who accuse him of insulting chiefs.
Speaking on Joy FM/MultiTv's news analysis program, Newsfile, Saturday, Mr. Baako said the involvement of chiefs in politics could trigger agitations and divide their subjects.
"I said what the chiefs were doing lacks wisdom, and it shows that they were not wise. I didn't say they are foolish and I didn't insult them," said Mr. Baako.
He said one critical attribute of chiefs and chieftaincy he knows is wisdom and also there is a legal regime which must be respected.
Mr. Baako cited examples in Kwame Nkrumah and Kutu Acheampong's administration when chiefs were destooled for political reasons.
