Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, says he has been voting for parliamentary candidates of his party, the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
Clarifying his earlier submission that he has since 1992 voted for the presidential candidates of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Baako told Joy News that in 1992, he voted for General Erskine, a CPP ardent.
Mr. Baako said as the Publicity Secretary for the People’s Heritage Party (PHP) in 1992, he officially campaigned on both television and radio and voted for General Erskine who was then the presidential candidate for the PHP.
He further explained that in 1996, the Great Alliance – consisting of the NPP of the United Party (UP) tradition and the People’s Convention Party (PCP) which was the Nkrumaist tradition – was formed with ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor as the flagbearer and the late Mr Ekow Nkensen Arkaah as the running mate.
Malik Baako who was speaking on Joy FM’s Newsnight Thursday stated that he officially campaigned for the Great Alliance and “voted for Mr Kufuor whose face was on the presidential ticket.”
"2000 Election, first round, I voted for Mr Kufuor. I campaigned for him, I insisted that that’s what should happen and my position was not accepted by my party but I publicly and officially campaigned for Mr Kufuor.
“Come the second round; that is the run-off, my party and other parties who had disagreed with me came on board and voted for Mr Kufuor,” he claimed.
Kweku Baako added that he subsequently voted for Mr. Kufuor during the 2004 Elections and for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2008 Elections, both the first and second round.
“So that is the true picture,” Mr Baako said regarding his pattern of voting since 1992.
