Ghana Prisons Service on Sunday announced the appointment of Mr Michael Kofi Bansah as the Acting Director General of the Prisons Service with effect from Monday November 16, 2009.
He took over from Mr. William Kwadwo Asiedu who headed the Prisons Service since September 2003.
A statement signed by Madam Gloria Fati Abudu, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons said until his appointment, Mr Bansah a product of University of Ghana was a commandant of the Prisons Officers Training School, officer in charge of Ho Central Prisons, Director of Prisons in charge of Services and Technical and other positions.
The statement said Mr Bansah was Director of Prisons in charge of Operations, Prisons Headquarters and from January 2008 to 2009 he served the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNIFIL) as an advisor to the Correction Advisory Unit in Monrovia Central and Greenville Prisons.
It said he had duty tours to many prisons in the United Kingdom and Israel.
