The Managing editor of the Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature has dispelled suggestions that the Rawlingses would break away from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) should Mrs. Rawlings lose to President J.E.A.Mills.
There has been reports of a likely breakaway by the Rawlingses from the NDC should Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings lose the upcoming presidential primaries of the party on July 8-10 in Sunyani.
Ex-president Jerry Rawlings hinted of a possible breakaway in his June 4 pronouncements when he said the inevitable will happen if his wife lost the primaries.
A failed aspirant and a loyalist of the Rawlingses Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, also warned of the possibility of a new party emerging from the NDC if the election during the congress is not free and fair.
But the myth was broken when Mrs. Rawlings at her vetting to prove her ability to lead the party in 2012 gave the assurance that, they (Rawlingses) would remain in the party should the inevitable happen.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday; Alhaji Bature opined that the Rawlingses will never breakaway from the NDC because they lack the ability to organize people.
He explained that when it comes to party organization, ex-president Rawlings would score zero because he has never been involved in such activities, insisting “President Rawlings is not an organiser; he is a crowd puller”.
The Al Hajj editor stressed that ex-President Rawlings would under no circumstance give up a party he founded and that such suggestions should be taken with ’a pinch of salt’.
Alhaji Bature however expressed gratitude to Mrs. Rawlings on her assurance that they (Rawlingses) would continue to remain in the NDC even if she loses the flagbearership slot to President Mills.
The ruling NDC is billed to hold its delegates congress to elect a presidential candidate for the 2012 general elections on July 8-10 in Sunyani.
