Six persons have so far been confirmed dead in Bawku in the Upper East Region following pockets of violence that erupted Sunday between the Mamprusis and the Kusasis.A near half-day curfew has also been imposed; from 1pm to 6am to help curtail the spread of the latest violence which started following the killing of a Mamprusi man.Police Public Relations Director, DSP Kwasi Ofori, has told Metro TV that four other persons were receiving treatment for injuries while security has been heightened.Upper East Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Council, Mark Wayongo had told Joy News the Mamprusi man was allegedly ambushed by two men in his car and shot to death, and angered by the death of their colleague, the Mamprusi youth took to the streets and in a reprisal attack lynched another man suspected to be from the Kusasi ethnic group and burnt his motor bike to ashes.The police/military security detail in their bid to disperse the angry youth, fired warning shots to scare them away, but a live bullet, according to the minister, hit one of them leading to the third death.Two other bodies were recovered from related clashes.
