Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed profound sorrow at the passing of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

The Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church confirmed the death of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

The former Vice President described him as a pioneering innovator, spiritual leader, and a true patriot whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of Ghanaians.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Dr Bawumia paid tribute to the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, recognising his far-reaching contributions that extended well beyond the pulpit.

“Apostle Safo served Ghana beyond the capacity of a religious leader,” Dr Bawumia wrote.

“He pioneered indigenous innovations and forcefully inspired an industrial spirit amongst Ghanaians. He was also dedicated to improving the lives of the less privileged in society, as witnessed in his celebrated numerous philanthropic endeavours.”

Apostle Safo, often referred to as the "Star of Africa", was widely revered not only for his spiritual leadership but also for his trailblazing work in local engineering and manufacturing.

As the founder of Kantanka Group of Companies, he championed home-grown technological advancement, producing a range of locally made vehicles and machinery at a time when such ambitions were considered out of reach.

Dr Bawumia also reflected on his personal relationship with the late Apostle, noting the warmth and encouragement he received during their interactions.

“Any time I called on him, I departed his presence with lasting words of encouragement and wisdom,” he stated. “As a religious leader, his open arms received me.”

On behalf of his family, the former Vice President extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the Kristo Asafo Mission, and all those affected by what he described as an "irreparable loss."

He further called Ghanaians to uphold Apostle Safo’s legacy by embracing local innovation and service to the community.

“May his legacy continue to endure and inspire future generations to believe in our domestic solutions, serve their communities, and put Ghana first,” the post read.
