After successfully securing $18,000 US dollars from sponsors CAL Bank ,the eagerly anticipated third consecutive season of Ghana's Novelty Beach soccer leagues will commence on Saturday 26th April at the La beach soccer Arena.
From Division One to Championship status, newly promoted Gulf Powers and Nima Beach Soccer Club are poised to challenge the big boys in Ghana Beach soccer including back to back champions Keta Sunset Sports and Ada Assurance.
The second tier (Division1) which also comprises of ten teams will now also include relegated Tegbi Youth and Nungua United; both keen to seek a quick route back to the Championship.
The weekend of April 26th will kick off the first round of the league games and will pause on June 7, to make way for the Black Stars participation at 2014 World Cup in Brazil per FIFA's directive to end all running leagues for its flagship tournament in Brazil.
A tighter coordination is expected with the Ghana football Association (GFA), raising confidence of a rise in the level of development.
Two critical areas that would be immediate targets for improvement by the Ghana Beach soccer association is the organisation of the league and seeking additional sponsorship to cover beach soccer's conservative annual budget of just over GHC200,000 a season.
Meanwhile the GBSA has confirmed that it is in talks with a number of corporate institutions to secure funds that would shore up the budget deficit. In with this , a new sponsorship deal with Voltic Ghana ''Official thirst quencher'' is expected to be announced later this week.
At the end of the first round a provisional team will be announced for the Ghana Beach Soccer national team: the Black Sharks.
Notably, the young Ghana Beach soccer team are ranked 8th in African Beach Soccer by Beach Soccer World Wide (BSWW).
This was communicated to member associations in the first ever ranking after just one appearance at 2013 CAF/FIFA qualifiers in AL Jadida, Morocco.
The opening fixtures of the CAL bank Beach Soccer championship will see Holders Keta Sunset Sports begun their title defence against tough town opponents Havedzi Mighty Warriors, while newly promoted Gulf Powers and Nima Bsc face Dansoman Bsc and Ada Assurance BSC respectively.
The comprehensive Championship and Division One fixtures would be released soon.
