Embattled Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Tawia II is accusing the Accra Metropolitan Assembly of takings sides in the murky Ga chieftaincy crisis.
His spokesperson Nii Abbey claims the AMA boss Nii Lantey Vanderpuije was on an 'accept-our-condolences-tour' of Greater Accra region with a rival Ga chief to commiserate with recent flood victims.
Nii Adama Latse III, a claimant to the Ga stool was early this week reported to be part of an AMA delegation which visited victims of the Accra flood disaster.
Nii Abbey insisted the AMA has no right to embark on such a crusade with a Ga chief whose credentials cannot be guaranteed.
According to him, government as part of its policy has vowed never to recognize a Ga chief who has not been officially gazzeted.
He therefore wondered why the AMA boss, appointed by the president, would have an unregistered Ga Chief as part of an AMA motorcade running around flood affected areas in the city.
The Ga state is festering with chieftaincy conflicts with three separate personalities claiming the stool, and being sworn-in at one time or another, as the legitimate Ga chief.
Nii Abbey said it is not the least amusing for the AMA to take sides over such a thorny issue.
But the AMA has dismissed the accusations.
Spokesperson of the Assembly, Nuumo Blafo told Joy News the accusations are “childish bickering” which should not be taken seriously.
He explained the AMA received a request from one of the claimants [Nii Latse] that he would want to be part of the AMA delegation to show their sympathies to affected flood victims.
Nuumo Blafo argued the AMA was not going to submerge the supreme interests and well-being of the people of Accra because of a controversial Ga chieftaincy issue.
He said the thorny but important Ga chieftaincy issue has been personalized, insisting the AMA would not meddle in the issue.
He said the AMA has given its unalloyed support to the Ga Traditional Council as and when it is necessary, and wondered why his outfit would be accused of meddling in chieftaincy matters.
He said if the Nii Tackie Tawia came with a similar request to help the Ga people, the AMA would willingly accept such a proposal.
