Best Assurance Company Limited, an indigenous general insurance company, has announced the appointment of Mr. Robert Wugah as its new Managing Director, effective November 3, 2025.
Mr. Wugah brings to the role over twenty years of extensive experience in the insurance industry, spanning strategy development, innovation, general management, underwriting, reinsurance, and claims management. His appointment signals a renewed focus on growth, innovation, and value delivery at Best Assurance.
Commenting on the appointment, Chairman of the Board, Dr. Tony Aubynn, described Mr. Wugah as a proven leader whose depth of industry knowledge and leadership capability will be instrumental in driving profitability and sustainable growth. He highlighted Mr. Wugah’s strong grasp of insurance service delivery, collaboration, product flexibility, and technology, noting that these strengths position him well to enhance value for all stakeholders.
In his new role, Mr. Wugah will lead efforts to reposition and strengthen Best Assurance’s market presence, leveraging the company’s existing equity to deliver customer-focused, market-driven insurance solutions for both retail and corporate clients.
Expressing his appreciation for the appointment, Mr. Wugah described the role as an honour and reaffirmed his commitment to continuous improvement and value creation through insurance services. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among key stakeholders—including regulators, the board, brokers, agents, customers, and staff—as a cornerstone for achieving the company’s strategic objectives and making Best Assurance a preferred insurance brand in Ghana.

He holds an Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA), from the University of Ghana Business School and has a B.Ed. (Hons) degree from the University of Cape Coast. Robert is a Chartered Insurer and a member of both the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG) and the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. He has additionally built capacity through several technical insurance training programs in Ghana, Nigeria, Mauritius and South Africa. He is also a certified product of the Oxford Executive Leadership Programme of the University of Oxford, UK.
Mr. Wugah’s career includes serving as Managing Director of Imperial General Assurance, where he successfully led a turnaround that improved growth, profitability, and market share after assuming office in 2020. He also spearheaded a critical restructuring that revitalized the company’s operations. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership roles at Wapic Insurance Ghana Limited (now Coronation Insurance Ghana) and Metropolitan Insurance Company (now Hollard Insurance Ghana), including Head of Technical Operations, Head of Corporate and Broker Relations, and Head of Reinsurance.
