The Northern Region Police Command has given a resounding assurance that the killers of the overlord of  Nanumba in Bimbilla, Naa Andani would be hunted and prosecuted.

Naa Andani and three others were killed in a latest surge of violence that has plagued the area.

A disagreement over where to bury a rival chief in the town triggered last night’s clash, reports said.

Several others, including a four month old baby sustained varying degree of injuries and were rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The clashes happened despite a 9:00 PM to 5:00AM curfew that is already in force in the area.

An eyewitness told Joy News' Northern Region correspondent Hashmin Mohammed that, some uniformed men besieged the palace late Thursday evening and began firing at the occupants of the palace.

Security has been beefed up in the area following the deployment of more policemen.

Director General of the Police Service, DCOP Nenye Ampah- Benin told Joy News' Francisca Kakra Forson yesterday's violence was nothing but pure murder and the perpetrators will be brought to book.

"We will get them from their hideout" and "they will be brought to book."

"This cannot be said to be violence. It is murder. So those who committed those murderous acts will be found out. We assure the general public that we will get them. We will arrest them and prosecute them," he reiterated.

He said calm has returned to the area following the beefing up of the police and urged residents to go about their duties without fear.

The Northern Region Minister Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna told Joy News an emergency security meeting is already underway, hinting that the Northern Region Security Command on the advice of the Interior Ministry, may review the curfew and make it a dusk-dawn curfew.

Justice

Meanwhile, the family of the late chief is demanding justice.

The son of the late chief, Dassana Salifu said the state must find the perpetrators and bring them to book.

He said the attack on his father was shocking not only because of the manner in which it was done but because his father was a man of peace.

"We demand that immediately the government should arraign the perpetrators to book," he told Hashmin Mohammed.

At a press conference in Tamale to formally announce the death of the overlord, the family said it is unhappy with comments by the DCE that the conflict was triggered by clashes from two factions.

They insist Naa Andani was attacked and murdered without any provocation.

The family also claim, there were early warning signs their father would be murdered and wondered why the security did not take proactive measures to stop it.

Goverment has meanwhile given a 100,000 cedis bounty for any information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
