Just when the dust seems to be settling on the controversial death of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, some sympathisers are trying to reignite the Ghana-Libya connection. Whereas some have organised a funeral in honour of the dead Libyan leader, free-talking reggae artiste and host of Taxi Driver on Hitz FM, Blakk Rasta, says he is preparing to release a record smashing song for Colonel Gaddafi. Blakk Rasta shot into international fame in 2008 with the hit song Barack Obama which he made for the current American President Barack Obama during his campaign to become president of America. He is very popular in Ghana for his free hard-hitting talk program on radio, a profession he has been in for almost ten years. Blakk Rasta indicated in an interview that he is “disappointed in how the NATO forces including America, England and France handled the Libyan issue. "They totally misbehaved. I am waiting for Jah to give me that inspiration so that I would be able to move forward but I would certainly make a tune for Gaddafi, no two ways about that. “I wouldn’t be able to give the exact time but it would be very soon because the inspiration keeps coming and I am waiting for the sweetest melody that I can deal with and trust me it is not going to be a joke song.” On his latest album titled Born Dread which came out about five months ago, Blakk Rasta criticised Col Gaddafi on one of his songs titled The Libyan War where he said Gaddafi has been president for too long and would have to step down but kicking him out should not be done through a coup d’état, murder, assassination or killing. He said “I have been very very sad for some days now and I have not been myself because of the killing of Gaddafi. Africans should be able to handle their own issues.” The ace reggae artiste expressed his disappointment at his ‘friend’ Barrack Obama for allowing America to participate in what he described as the “misbehaviour” of the western countries in Libya but could not tell how that would affect their friendship. Asked whether he would release another song for Obama as he gears up for the 2012 elections, Blakk Rasta said “well I am waiting for the inspiration from Jah because I am not happy about the way America and those other countries handled the Libyan issue.” The content of the ‘Gaddafi song’ would certainly touch some raw nerves and draw reactions not only from Ghana but across the continent at large but now we can only wait and see.
