Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and aide to the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams, has emphatically stated that any ID card to be produced by Major (Rtd) Boakye Gyan, to prove his membership of the party can only be fake.
Kofi Adams said he would be very surprised if Boakye Gyan is able to produce any genuine identity card to prove his membership of the NDC because he has never been a member.
The spokesperson of the AFRC has submitted nomination forms to contest the parliamentary primaries of the NDC for Jaman South Constituency. It is reported he was the only nominee.
The ex-soldier says he is very optimistic to break the opposition New Patriotic Party's monopoly over the constituency seat.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Kofi Adams challenged Boakye Gyan to prove his membership of at least two years activism in the NDC which qualifies him to stand for elections.
"If he is able to produce any membership card in Ghana it would be fake," he added.
The deputy General Secretary of the NDC said national executives of the party have not received any information from the branch level in Jaman South constituency indicating Boakye Gyan's membership.
According to Kofi Adams, for anybody to be a member of the party, he or she has to be confirmed at the branch level before a membership card would be issued to that person.
He noted that for Major (Rtd) Boakye Gyan to have even contested as an independent candidate in the 2008 general elections also disqualifies him to contest the primaries of the NDC.
Kofi Adams could not fathom the real intentions behind the erstwhile AFRC member realigning himself to the NDC; a party he said was built on the ideals and principles of ex-President Rawlings but whom Boakye Gyan continues to chastise.
He said the party had learnt lessons from people who joined the party to get to Parliament and later crossed carpet for their parochial interests.
Kofi Adamns was convinced that Boakye Gyan would not even pass the vetting process to lead the NDC in Jaman South for elections 2012 and urged Boakye Gyan to rather contribute his quota to building the NDC ahead of the 2012 general elections instead yearning to represent the party in Parliament.
