A team of academics and students from Boston College, Massachusetts in the United States has undertaken a study tour of some facilities of Rlg Communications Ltd in Accra.

The 25-member delegation included two professors and undergraduate students studying different disciplines at the College.

 It is the second time a team from the College is visiting the company after a similar one last year.

They delegation is in Ghana on the TechTrek Ghana "Technology & Economic Development" field study which offers students the opportunity to explore the contribution of ICT and technology to enhance growth in developing countries.

They toured the company’s showroom at Osu and were taken round the computer, laptop and mobile phone assembly lines where they observed assembling processes and standard procedures. They were conducted round by the Customer Service Manager, Mr Worlali Ameevor and Production Manager, Mr Fred Nanor.

An Associate Professor of Information Systems at the Carroll School of Management, Boston College, Prof. John Gallaugher who led the team expressed pleasure at Rlg’s desire to leverage on its technological strength and ability to influence job creation in Ghana and other African countries.

“These students have varied backgrounds but have been keen to see for themselves what Rlg have been up to in this part of the world,” Prof. Gallaugher remarked.

An Adjunct Associate Professor of Accounting at the College, Prof. Elizabeth Strock Bagnani thanked Rlg for “opening up to young people desirous of development and technological advance and development in general”.

She said because both the academia and industry compliments each other, there is greater need to deepen collaborative efforts for the mutual good of all.

Corporate Affairs Manager of Rlg Communications Ltd, Mr Emmanuel Arthur reiterated the company’s readiness to partner relevant stakeholders to bridge the gap currently existing between industry and training institutions including those of higher learning.
