Voting is underway in the Amenfi West Constituency in the Western Region to elect a Member of Parliament.
A by-election became necessary after the demise of the incumbent NDC MP, John Gyetuah in October this year.
Joy News’ Benjamin Peters reports that some misunderstanding broke out at one of the polling centers, Bremang JHS after voters discovered that the electoral roll went missing at about 7am, Tuesday.
“A misunderstanding has erupted between some electorate and the EC officials over missing voters register. They had been told that the register had been taken to a different polling station,” he reported.
As a result, some electorates had been at the polling station since 7am but voting started at about 9am after the police intervened.
Bremang which is believed to be a stronghold of the NDC also happens to be the hometown of the late MP, John Gyetuah as well as the NPP's aspiring parliamentary candidate in the ongoing by-elections, Paul Denkyi.

Supporters of the NPP and NDC were blaming each other for the act. Some of the agitated voters had to be whisked away from the center, but calm was however returned after the timely intervention of the police.
The constituency saw some developments ahead of the by-election. Joy News has learnt the construction of asphaltic overlays at Asankragua in Wassa -Amenfi at about 9pm yesterday had been ongoing.

But the NDC candidate Eric Afful told Joy News, the plan was already underway to build the road. According to him, it was pure coincidence that the bye-election date came on the day marked out for the construction works.
Participating in the race are NPP’s Paul Dekyi, Eric Afful of the NDC, PPP’s Abraham Kojo Buadee and Elvis Adjei of the UF.P.

About 62, 364 eligible voters are expected to vote in 102 polling stations in the constituency.
