National telecommunications operator, Globacom, on Monday kept its promise as it presented a brand new 2015 Mercedes Benz G-Wagon to the lucky winner of the Glo-CAF Awards Predict and Win Big promo, Mr. Princewill Uzochukwu Nwosu.
With the presentation of the top-of-the-range SUV valued at N35 million to Nwosu, life for the 39-year old transport manager with a major transport company in Iddo, Lagos, has jumped to a classy beat. “My life is made by Glo,” Nwosu said with a broad smile radiating his black oval face. Lucky Nwosu was picked through the draw conducted during the Glo-CAF awards ceremony which was held at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos last Thursday.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mr. Amaju Pinnick, before the live audience of over a thousand guests that attended the Glo-CAF awards, picked the winning entry. He was assisted by popular comedian, Bright Okpocha (Basket mouth)who compered the draw. Globacom’s Regional Chief Marketing Officer,
Mr. Ashok Israni, formally presented the key to the exotic car to Mr. Nwosu at a ceremony attended by senior officials of the company, Globacom brand ambassadors, Naeto C and Helen Paul, as well as journalists from key news media, at Globacom’s Head Office, Mike Adenuga Tower (MAT) in Victoria Island, Lagos on Monday. Highly-elated Nwosu could not hide his joy as he shared his experience leading to the new status: “I couldn’t believe my luck,” he told reporters. “I put in only three entries and I forgot all about it.
To be frank with you, I wasn’t expecting to win anything, not to think of winning the grand prize of a Benz G- Wagon,” he said. During the December 31, 2014 watch night service, Nwosu revealed he tabled two prayer points before God at his Church in Lagos: “One, a replacement for my old, rickety car, and two, prosperity in the New Year, especially as things had been tough in the outgoing year for me.” He expressed happiness that his prayer had been “answered through this favour from God which He has used Globacom to deliver to me eight days into the New Year.”
Nwosu said when he first received the call that has changed his life, he doubted its authenticity and actually thought it was an attempt to defraud him. He said that Basket mouth, who placed the call, later passed the phone to the NFF president who assured him it was not a joke. The Glo-CAF Predict and Win Big promo was flagged off in December, 2014 as one of two promotions introduced by Globacom to spice up the 2014 edition of the annual awards organised by the Confederation of African Football and sponsored exclusively by the telecoms firm.
The first promo, Reserve your seat at the Awards Event, afforded Glo subscribers who recharged with N5, 000 or more in December an opportunity to secure a seat as one of the company's special guests at the event. The second promo, which Nwosu took part in, Predict and Win Big, required subscribers to correctly predict any of the winners in three Glo-CAF Awards categories: African Footballer of the year, African Female Player of the year and African Coach of the Year.
Prizes offered included a Mercedes Benz G Wagon, 10 return tickets to Old Trafford, home ground of Manchester United, and over 1,000 prizes of free airtime of N10, 000 each.
