The Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, has made a cash donation to Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Hasaacas Ladies, ahead of their CAF Champions League Qualifiers.
The five-time Ghana women’s champions received an amount of $10,000 to support their quest to qualify to the main tournament.
The cash was presented to the team on Wednesday at Oak Plaza on behalf of the Vice President by his aide, Tamimu Issah, who also conveyed a special message of goodwill to the team from Bawumia.
“The Vice President has been a strong supporter of female football. As you can recall a few years ago when Hasaacas qualified for the first-ever CAF Champions League zonal championship in Ivory Coast, the team launched a public appeal for support to enable them participate in the competition.
" His excellency saw the public appeal…he responded positively and supported them with some money that cushioned them to support in that competition,” Tamimu said.
“He’s remained committed to supporting women’s football and Ghanaian female champions…he did same to Ampem Darkoa Ladies and this year Hasaacas have qualified again.
“He congratulated them publicly for winning the league and qualifying once again to the championship and said he was looking forward to meeting them ahead of competition in Côte d’Ivoire.
“The team is scheduled to leave Ghana tomorrow to participate in the championship so he sent me to extend his support to them; we are supporting them with $10,000 to cushion them for the championship.”
The management, technical, and playing team of Hasaacas Ladies expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Vice President Bawumia for his surprise contribution.
The Hasmal Ladies are in Group B of the tournament and paired with Omnisports Etincelle, Edo Queens and AS Garde National.
