Editor in chief of the Crusading Guide newspaper says calls for the dismissal of the Finance Minister Seth Terkper are not genuine.
According to Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, it can only be an "escapist approach" to demand for the dismissal of the minister when there are larger issues to deal with.
He made the comments on Joy FM's newsfile programme, Saturday while discussing the mounting pressure on the president to do away with his finance minister.
President John Mahama early this year disclosed how pressure is being mounted on him to sack Seth Terkper.
The Information Minister Mahama Ayariga in a subtle criticism said the forthrightness of the Finance Minister sometimes made the work of government spokespersons very difficult.
Central Region Propaganda Secretary of the NDC Allotey Jacobs has also been fiercely critical of the Finance Minister and has been leading a campaign for his dismissal.
But Kweku Baako Jnr said calls for the dismissal of Terkper are suspect.
"Is the Finance Minister not implementing government policy," he asked adding," is he the only member of the economic management team?"
Kweku Baako contended that Seth Terkper only implemented policies agreed to by cabinet and cannot be held entirely responsible for the failure.
He added the "call to sack Seth Terkper is only a call of collective failure".
The Deputy Minister of Interior James Agalga said the president is clothed with the powers of appointing and dismissing as he pleases.
Equating the position of the president with that of the football coach, Agalga said the coach can substitute any player he feels is exhausted and bring in another player.
He said the president should be given the "benefit of the doubt" in whatever decision he makes in respect of Seth Terkper.
