The Chief Executive of Metropolitan Insurance; Kwame-Gazo Agbenyadzie is now the President and Board Chairman of the Ghana Insurers Association.
He was elected at the Association’s 3rd Annual General Assembly and takes over from the former Managing Director of SIC Insurance, Benjamin Acolatse.
Mr. Agbenyadzie has been outlining to JOY BUSINESS, the immediate priorities of the new administration in strengthening the growth of insurance in the country.
“Our focus will be to continue building the confidence of the insurance public in the industry and awe will also lay a ;lot of emphasis on self regulation to ensure our members play to rules rather than waiting for our external regulator to come after us” he noted.
“Also, last year we launched a series of initiatives like the Ghana Agric Insurance Programme and the Oil and Gas Pool which we would like to strengthen. Especially for the Agric Insurance Programme we want to try and make it a mainstream product compared to presently when it is being implemented on pilot basis” he added.
“We also have outstanding issues like the proposed review of Motor Insurance Premiums which we would try and finalize. Also would be the implementation of the compulsory fire insurance which was started last year but has seen low compliance and therefore we’d work to invest in education and enforcement” he concluded.
Mr. Agbenyadzie has over 25 years experience in both Life and General Insurance. Until his election to the highest position in the association, he was the 2nd Vice President of the Association and the Chairman of the General Insurance Council.
