The defending league champions, Berekum Chelsea, put their recent woes behind them with a resounding 4-1 thrashing of new entrants, Wassmana, FC at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi. Chelsea endured a rough week after their coach Steve Polack was sacked following a 1-0 loss to Medeama FC last Weekend.
The new coach Hans Van Der Plyum has reignited the firing capacity of the champions who saw their captain, Abdul Basit, scoring from the spot as early as the third minute before lethal striker, Emmanuel Clottey made it two in the 15th minute.
Clottey deepened the woes of the Wassaman lads when he completed a brace before the end of the first half. The second half resumed with a similar verve from the Chelsea boys who increased the tally to four on the 68th minute courtesy a strike from Moro Awudu.
Wassaman gained a consolation from the singular effort of Zufah Zuga who made mincemeat of the Chelsea goalkeeper, but it was too little too late for a memorable comeback.
Meanwhile Kumasi Asante Kotoko maintained their position on top of the league table with a one-all draw against Berekum Arsenal in a crucial away game at the Berekum Golden City Park.
Mohammed Fatau put the visitors ahead in the dying embers of the first half before the home side secured a hard fought equalizer from the penalty spot in the 87th minute. Stephen Amankwah put the ball to the wrong side of Kotoko’s goalkeeper.
Hearts of Lions also defeated Wa All Stars at the Kpando Sports Stadium by one goal to nil off the boots of Daniel Bonsu.
Tema Youth easily raced pass Medeama FC with three goals: Two from Bernard Akuffo and Benjamin Terri, in the first half and a third goal in the second half by Daniel Appiah.
Ashgold failed to capitalize on home advantage as they were held to a boring goalless draw game at the Len Clay Sports Stadium.
On Saturday Ebusua Dwarfs held Mighty Jets to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium to preserve their unbeaten start to the Glo Premier League season.
Despite a lackluster performance from both sides, referee Sylvester Adzoku was forced to take tough decisions to calm the fiery temper of the players throughout the game.
Bechem United also picked up their first point of this season after drawing 1-1 at home against Aduana Stars to end their poor run in the Glo Premier League.
The final game of week will be played later on Sunday between Accra Hearts of Oak and New Edubiase FC. The Phobians a looking forward to a win as they prepare to celebrate their centenary in the coming days.
